Mount Pleasant Manor - Rehabilitation Department

The rehab team at Mount Pleasant Manor is a dynamic and energetic group of therapists who use an interdisciplinary approach to developing comprehensive individualized treatment plans for the residents. The rehab program includes evaluation, care plan development, and discharge planning that involves family/caregiver training and equipment needs. Therapy is offered up to seven days a week depending on the needs of each individual and their medical conditions. Also, families are encouraged to participate in their loved one's rehab programs.

Stroke Rehab - Total Joint Replacements - Falls - Fractures - General Deconditioning - Amputations - Arthritis - Swallowing Disorders - Wounds - Contractures - Balance Disturbances - Communication Disorders - Cardiac Conditions - Cognitive Deficits

 


OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY:

Occupational Therapy (OT) endeavors to equip residents with the skills necessary to achieve the highest level of functional indedpendence in a variety of areas ranging from basic feeding and hygiene to community re-entry. Items that may be addressed in accordance with the primary care physician's directives:

  • Improve bathing/dressing/feeding skills
  • Upper body strengthening
  • Safety management with cooking
  • Range of motion/splinting
  • Community Re-entry
  • Cognitive Re-training
  • Fine motor development
  • Endurance/energy conservation


PHYSICAL THERAPY:

Physical Therapy (PT) incorporates a whole body approach that promotes the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability. PT endeavors to focus on the resident's highest level of independence in areas ranging from simple bed positioning to advanced ambulation skills. Items that may be addressed in accordance with the primary care physician's directives:

  • Lower body strengthening
  • Transfer training
  • Prosthetic (amputee) training
  • Wheelchair fitting and training
  • Modalities- Ultrasound/Electrical stimulation
  • Range of motion/splinting
  • Balance/Fall prevention
  • Community Re-entry
  • Wound care
  • Neuro-muscular education


SPEECH - LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY:

Speech Therapy (ST) endeavors to help residents integrate with others more effectively through increased speech and communication skills. ST may also be instrumental in increasing residents' eating enjoyment by maximizing their swallowing safety with the least restrictive diets. In accordance with the primary care physician's directions, these items may be addressed:

  • Swallowing problems
  • Cognitive deficits
  • Diet Consistencies
  • Feeding tube to oral feeding transition
  • Vitalstim
  • Dry mouth
  • Slurred speech
  • Aphasia
  • Eating problems
